Importance of Allyship in Tech Ops
Allyship is critical to the success of Tech Ops at American Airlines. “Allyship” and “advocacy” are often used interchangeably and share a common purpose. Yet they have distinctive meanings. Allyship means you’re doing the hard work to actively support people from marginalized groups—often those with whom you have relationships or who are in your sphere of influence. Advocacy is acting in service of a cause, and the people it affects, to influence decision-makers and decision-making. Our panelists will share thoughts on allyship, including successes and challenges, as well as best practices for caring for team members.

Using Novel Body Scanning Technology and Analysis Methods to Generate an Accurate and Affordable USN and USMC Aircrew Anthropometric Database
The Navy is conducting its largest aircrew anthropometric survey since the 1960s; the first of its kind to include women. NAWCAD is using advanced 3D scanning hardware and expertise as well as supportive technology and subject matter experts through other services and industry partnerships. The results from this survey will directly enhance aircrew gear fit, size availability, generate multivariate use cases for future aircraft, and yield a corresponding improvement in aircraft restriction codes to allow more personnel to anthropometrically qualify as aviators. Published tech reports, anthropometry databases, and 3D scanning databases will be made available across the DoD and industry.

Family Planning and Flying in the Military
We don?t often talk about ?Family Planning,? but it is an important conversation to have if you want a family someday and want to be successful in your career. Military aviation is a high-risk activity even on the most beautiful fly days, but there are hidden risks that you may not be aware of. Military service members are 2-3 times more likely to suffer from infertility than their civilian counterparts, and aircrew is one of the highest-risk populations for infertility. The good news is that there are options, but you must be proactive.

The Rollercoaster of Search and Rescue Flying
From search and rescue on the high seas, to cliff cases and urban rescues post hurricanes, the Coast Guard is always ready. It is not always easy with beautiful weather and doesn?t always end in the outcome hoped for, yet there are days when every crewmember is on cloud nine after saving a life. Aviation will test your mettle and bring overwhelming joy and satisfaction. How do we process these dynamic events and the rollercoaster of emotions they make us feel? What tools are at our disposal to help us build resiliency and continue on these missions?

Drones: The Gateway to Aviation
I got hooked on drones almost 20 years ago, literally changing my life, as the only female in my model RC aircraft club. Now, I work as a UAS lecturer at Utah State University, teaching others to be socially responsible pilots, appreciate drones as tools, and get hooked on aviation. Let us tell you about how we are using drones to connect with underserved areas, how you might incorporate drones into your educational or outreach programs to engage girls, youth, and rural communities, and ways you can use drones to inspire the next generation of aviators.

Striking a Balance while Building a Resilient Warrior
Compartmentalization is crucial to aviation; however, it does not serve the individual well in the long run. Mental wellness is important to individual and unit readiness and is now recognized as such. Resources are available but there is still a stigma attached to seeking help. This panel will identify signs of mental stress and resources available to a commander and the individual, to mitigate stressors, improve mental well-being, and build resiliency. It is aimed at all levels of leadership, enlisted and officer. Subject matter experts will discuss indications of mental stress and the resources available.

Thinking like an Engineer: Through the Lens of Flight Test
Learn how Flight Test ensures that an airplane model is ready for the public and how you can apply the same engineering principles to your own career. Validating the performance of an airplane is one of the first steps to determining and documenting the safe operating limits you fly within as a passenger. To determine the limits safely, Flight Test Engineers mitigate and monitor risks, then validate the results of an airplane performance test. This presentation will discuss specific flight test scenarios that enable engineers to determine the airplane limits and how to apply similar concepts across engineering disciplines.

Communicating with Accountability: Navigating & Addressing Microaggressions in the Workplace
In this talk, participants will explore the impact of microaggressions through the lens of accountability. Unfortunately, when communicating with colleagues and clients, our positive intent does not always match the impact of our words. When this happens, navigating the corrective path to repair the harm caused can feel overwhelming. By participating in this workshop, participants will be able to identify the roots of microaggressions, learn strategies to avoid causing verbal harm, and practice the act of repair following this misstep (which we?ve all made)!

Speech-language Pathology Partnering with Aviation to Help Prevent Miscommunications Due to Intelligibility Concerns in Non-native English Speakers
This presentation will introduce the field of speech-language pathology and how it can serve the aerospace industry by improving intelligibility in pilots who speak English as a foreign language. It will review novel research that sought to improve intelligibility in Chinese pilot candidates who were at risk for dismissal from a flight school. Results from this investigation are pending publication in an international academic aviation journal, likely published around the time of this presentation. Thus, this will be the first time the aviation industry will hear about this exciting new research and the novel partnership of our two fields.

The Working Daughter
While many of us are accustomed to being working parents, not many of us are prepared to be working daughters. While we may plan for maternity leaves and childcare support we may be called upon for urgent caregiving of parents without warning. In many cases we are stuck in the middle as both working mothers and daughters. This session will offer a safe space for caregivers to connect. We will share the challenges of managing our careers while caring for our loved ones, young and old. We will also share helpful resources.

A License to Learn
How do you train someone to fail? You train them to become an Aircraft Mechanic – GOOD Aircraft Mechanics train themselves to fail, fail fast, fail often, fail, and learn. But how do you train yourself to be open to failure yet not quit? And how do you develop that mindset? As the industry changes and we see this unprecedented need for Aircraft Technicians, we must talk to them about resilience and persistence in Aircraft Maintenance.Aircraft Mechanics with 20 years of experience do not grow on trees. They are made! They are collections of lessons learned.

Bird
In 2013, Tracey launched on a series of expeditions in her Boeing Stearman biplane in homage to the female pioneers of the Golden Age of Aviation: Cape Town to England; England to Australia, and across the USA. These flights were a mission to remind the world of the historic achievements of these women, of the prejudice they faced from a hostile male establishment and their under-recognized contribution to aviation. Tracey has written a book, Bird, about her life and all that aviation has meant to her and produced a documentary film which is due for release in 2024.

Civilian Aviation Careers in the Military and Federal Government
Joining the military isn't the only way to serve one's country. All the military services and the federal government have many aviation-related opportunities for civilians--engineers, pilots, and maintenance personnel, just to name a few. This session will describe those opportunities and provide information on how those interested in government jobs can get more information on existing positions as well as tips on how to navigate the government hiring process, including obtaining a security clearance if needed.
