ALPA’s engagement and direct lobbying in 2024 was critical to ensure that flight crews gained access to benefits available to other workers. Flight crews have been carved out of some worker benefits such as paid sick time, FMLA, etc. due to non-traditional workhours.

System safety engineering is a little known, but critical companion accompanying all aircraft from cradle to grave. This presentation seeks to provide a basic understanding of system safety engineering in an aviation context, help pilots, aircrew and maintainers understand how they can work with system safety engineers to improve their aircraft and discuss some of the current challenges to the system safety process.
